Karan Balaji is a documentary filmmaker operating in Los Angeles and Washington DC, where he covers subjects including oral history, hip hop, crime, and urban zoning with his independent studio, TIRU Films. His most recent film, “DOGS OF DC,” dually follows up-and-coming DC rappers and the rise of a District crack kingpin (the film’s narrator) before his incarceration in the 90s. Karan studied Arabic and Japanese in college, and loves multi-media collaborations with Desi artists.
